Public Safety Officer I

About the Role

The Public Safety Officer I plays a key role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This position supports daily hospital operations by monitoring grounds, responding to incidents, and enforcing safety and security protocols. Ideal for candidates seeking to contribute to a mission-driven healthcare setting.



Key Responsibilities


  • Patrol hospital facilities, parking areas, and surrounding grounds to deter unsafe or unauthorized activity.



  • Monitor surveillance systems, alarms, and access control points.



  • Respond to calls for assistance and provide escorts, directions, and safety support.



  • Enforce safety and security policies, including visitor screening and emergency procedures.



  • Assist in emergency situations, including behavioral incidents and medical responses.



  • Conduct routine inspections of safety equipment and report deficiencies.



  • Document incidents and maintain accurate activity logs.



  • Participate in required training, including CPR, Stop the Bleed, Narcan, and de-escalation.



  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and respectful communication at all times.





Minimum Requirements

These requirements must be met to be considered for this position:


Valid Driver's License
At Least 1 Year of Security Experience
High School Diploma or GED

Additional Qualifications


  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.



  • Ability to stay calm and make sound decisions in stressful situations.



  • Physical ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, and occasionally restrain individuals as part of a team.



  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.



  • Must be at least 21 years old (exceptions may apply for individuals with military, law enforcement, or comparable healthcare security experience).



  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.





Preferred Qualifications


  • Security or healthcare security certifications (e.g., CHPA, CHSO).



  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment.



  • Experience with surveillance, alarms, and access control systems.





Licensure Requirements


  • Must obtain state-specific security licensing within required timeframes.



  • Must complete all post-hire training and maintain certifications.




Salary Range: Minimum /hour - Maximum /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
