Program Manager - Sciences (Hybrid) - 137539

The Program Manager manages the planning, scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of Science programs and courses for the Division of Extended Studies at UC San Diego. Develops new public education programs and manages complex public education programs. Uses project management and communication skills to resolve a wide range of educational program issues and needs. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for delivering courses, presentations and development programs. Receives general instructions and exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques for course and instructional improvement. Fully knowledgeable in course subject matter.

Additional duties include ongoing course schedule planning, instructor recruiting, student and instructor advising, promotional planning, periodic program and course evaluation and adjustment, and responding to complex programmatic issues. In conjunction with the department director and other stakeholders, participates in long-range strategic planning. Recommends updates to existing course content. Participates in the development of strategic marketing plans and coordinates marketing events. Develops and monitors budgets. The Program Manager may also uses advanced project management and communication skills to work on special projects involving external partners.

• Incumbent must be available for occasional evenings / weekends and may be required to attend conferences / programs both locally and out-of-town, as requested.

• Demonstrated experience designing and developing educational programs for adults.

• Demonstrated experience providing academic advising to students.

• Demonstrated experience recruiting, hiring and training instructors.

• Demonstrated experience developing and overseeing budgets.

• Thorough knowledge of marketing concepts including participating in developing marketing plans, targeting audiences, and coordinating marketing events.

• Demonstrated knowledge of managing a portfolio of business and management courses at the university or corporate level.

• Demonstrated excellent project management skills in an educational setting including, planning and implementing schedules, defining tasks and required resources, and tracking deadlines and deliverables.

• Thorough knowledge of and skill in delivering programs.

• Thorough skills to conduct needs assessment and development of new presentations / courses to meet organizational needs.

• Thorough and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner and to tailor communications to the intended audience.

• Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.

• Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent experience/training.

• Thorough knowledge of functional area and understanding of how work may impact other areas.

• Thorough knowledge of current public educational programs and trends.

• Thorough knowledge of organization policies and procedures.

• Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.

• Background check is required for this position.
