Position Summary

DEFINITION
Under supervision of the appropriate administrator, the incumbent helps to plan, organize, develop, and implement the coordination Career Center programs, services and special events, while valuing and promoting the mission and vision of the college.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
The incumbent, under minimal supervision, performs coordination and technical duties with a considerable degree of independence, thereby relieving the appropriate administrator of a wide range of routine administrative detail. The incumbent performs technical duties with a considerable degree of independence and helps to plan, organize, develop, and implement the coordination and organization of career center functions and activities. The incumbent has a high frequency of contact with students, college staff, faculty and administration, and the general public requiring tact and excellent oral communication skills.


Essential Functions and Qualifications

  1. Monitor and provide direction to assigned Career Center student workers, interns and volunteers as needed. Coordinates career center service efforts with other student success services.
  2. Disseminate information regarding the district and career center policies, procedures, and regulations to students, staff, employers, community agencies, and the general public.
  3. Provides student and faculty support by assisting Career Center students and student workers with career exploration, career readiness training, assessment and career coaching partnership with Career Center Counselors.
  4. Coordinates and updates career resources and services; provides general and specific information to students including information on careers; speaks to college classes regarding career center and job placement services; gives workshops, high school outreach visitations, and other recruiting activities.
  5. Interviews and assesses students to determine job interests and skills and qualifications, and to match with employer requirements; refers applicants/students for interviews and tracks results of referrals; administer skill tests and issue certificates; and advise students and applicants concerning techniques used in applying for jobs, including preparing applications and resumes, as well as grooming and interview strategies.
  6. Provides orientations to career center programs.
  7. Coordinates and tracks career center/job placement budget and grant usage, assist grant accountant to monitor program expenditures to ensure compliance with established laws and regulations, as well as funding agency requirements; processes records, augmentations, transfers, and funding proposals.
  8. Coordinates travel and conference arrangements and reservations for staff, mileage forms, and reimbursements.
  9. Communicates with employers to solicit, receive, and update job listings and assists with on and off campus recruitments with employers. Assists with the career center online job board.
  10. Takes lead in maintaining department computer equipment, software, and webpages and works with Information Technology department for implementation.
  11. Assists with direct support for career center related events, programs and services targeting college and high school student participants.
  12. Coordinates the planning, organizing and implementing of large-scale career center events such as career exploration day.
  13. Develops, coordinates, and leads or participates in classroom presentations, various workshops, orientations, high school visits, and other outreach activities as needed.
  14. Coordinates, reviews, analyzes, and maintains current career resources and assessment services and updates assessment test.
  15. Liaison with career development instructors to ensure coordination between curriculum and career center services, resources, and personal development instructor information is up-to-date.
  16. Maintains instructor's manual for personal development classes and orients new instructors regarding program requirements and instructional resources.
  17. Assists with weekly, monthly and annual reports and updates to internal and external stakeholders as requested. Conducts research practices related to Career Center best practices as needed.
  18. Provides information regarding the district and career center policies, procedures, and regulations to students, staff, employers, community agencies, and the general public.
  19. Assists students in career assessment and research, assists students with utilization of computerized career information systems.
  20. Coordinate in aligning efforts with counseling services, including arranging for career speakers. Coordinates CTSO: SkillsUSA; recruits support and plans SkillsUSA events including travel arrangements.
  21. Trains and oversees student workers; process, track, and submits department student worker timesheets.
  22. Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Working with diverse adult and K-12 student learning styles;

Demonstrated ability to:

  • Plan, organize, and complete assigned work independently and within established time deadlines;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
  • Organize workload and establish priorities with attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Learn and interpret specific policies and procedures and apply them with good judgment; in a variety of procedural situations;
  • Work with Federal Work Study (FWS), Child Welfare Services (CWS), or other low-income clients;
  • Operate a computer and perform clerical and technical work and retrieve data with accuracy and speed;
  • Establish and maintain office records and files.;
  • Compose and proofread correspondence independently;
  • Handle confidential student information with tact, discretion and in compliance with FERPA regulations.
  • Willingness to travel to offsite locations;
  • Make arithmetical computations quickly and accurately;
  • Licenses and Certificates Required:
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License at the time of hire

Working Conditions:
  • Duties are primarily performed in an office environment, at a desk or at a computer, on school campuses and at local business and industry work sites in the community.
  • The incumbent will experience interruptions while performing normal duties during the regular workday;
  • The incumbent will have contact, in person or on the telephone or videoconferencing, with staff, students, business and industry liaisons and the general public.
  • The incumbent will primarily work in the identified Career Center locations. Special Events, training and meetings may require incumbent to travel within the state of California and potentially out of state.

Physical Demands:
  • Operates a computer; and or technological devices;
  • Communicates over the telephone, by email, and in person
  • Travels throughout the county, region and state as needed;
  • Regularly lifts, carries, and/or moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Participates in learning activities, special events and community-based projects
  • Typically, may sit for extended periods of time

Special Qualification:
Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
A bachelor's degree, and two years of increasingly responsible experience in career and/or job placement/development advising, planning and experience with community or industry-based service organizations or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.


Additional Information

The desired start date is February 2026. This is a full-time, 37-hour, classified, 12-month position.

Work Schedule: Monday, 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Tuesday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
