DESCRIPTION

The Unit-Based Administrative Nursing Supervisor 2 positions function as Assistant Nurse Managers providing dedicated operational and administrative support for JMC Labor & Delivery. These positions bridge the gap between frontline staff and senior leadership, ensuring operational excellence in one of the organization's highest-risk and highest-volume units.

Core Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Human Resources Management: Recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and orientation of new staff; performance evaluations; progressive discipline; staff development planning.
  • Payroll & Schedule Administration: Oversight of time and attendance, approval of schedule changes, management of PTO requests, overtime monitoring and control.
  • Quality & Regulatory Oversight: Monitoring unit-level quality metrics, coordinating chart audits, ensuring regulatory compliance (Joint Commission, state licensing, internal policies), leading quality improvement initiatives.
  • Budgetary Management: Monitoring unit budget performance, variance analysis, staffing cost management, capital equipment requests.
  • Staffing & Resource Planning: Developing and maintaining staffing based on acuity, managing float and resource nurses, covering critical shifts when needed.
  • Staff Mentoring & Development: Clinical coaching, preceptor coordination, competency assessment and validation, career development discussions.
  • Policy & Procedure Implementation: Ensuring staff education and compliance with new protocols, leading practice changes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Nursing.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

  • Certificate of course completion of intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring from AWHONN.

  • Two (2+) or more years of recent RN experience in Labor & Delivery in a large acute care hospital.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage nursing teams.

  • Knowledge to manage emergent situations, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.

  • Strong hospital management skills, including staffing, fiscal, and operational oversight.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills across disciplines.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, accreditation, licensing, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with healthcare IT, workflows, and patient care processes.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with empathy and professionalism.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • MSN.
  • Clinical area certification (i.e. RNC) or Nursing Administration Certification.
  • Two (2+) or more years of nursing leadership.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • This position has both clinical and administrative duties.
  • This is an evening shift position which requires regular evening shift coverage at JMC L&D, and is eligible for shift differentials. May need to attend occasional meetings during the day. Some weekend shifts required.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $132,600 - $259,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $63.51 - $124.43

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
