DESCRIPTION

The UC San Diego Alpha Clinic is the cell and gene therapy arm of the Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center and specializes in early-phase, first-in-human trials. The Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center is devoted to accelerating the translation of all types of stem cell research to safe and effective therapies. It attracts patients, funding agencies, and study sponsors to participate in, support, and accelerate novel stem cell clinical trials and ancillary studies for a range of difficult diseases. The Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center has expanded to become one of six centers under the Sanford Stem Cell Institute umbrella.

Under general supervision, the Senior LVN is responsible for performing a wide range of patient care activities. Duties include, but are not limited to, prioritizing and assisting with patient phone calls, administering medications, collecting data, performing procedures, obtaining specimens, providing patient and family education, and reviewing treatment plans.

The Senior LVN also performs clinical study-related procedures in accordance with study protocols for patients participating in clinical trials. These duties may include central venous access, blood draws, dressing changes, peripheral blood draws, peripheral IV insertion, hydration, injections, procedure assistance, EKGs, vital signs, and rooming patients. In addition to clinical trial-related procedures, the Senior LVN also provides support for standard-of-care patient visits as part of routine clinic operations.

The Senior LVN serves as a liaison between physicians and patients, as well as a patient educator. Other related duties may be assigned as needed. All job standards are expected to be performed at an expert level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) - issued by the state of California.

  • LVN license must include IV/blood withdrawal certification.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date

  • Must have a minimum of two years of LVN experience.

  • Demonstrates experience working with EPIC.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in performing basic nursing techniques.

  • Proficiency in nursing procedures, specimen collection, and specimen testing.

  • Knowledge of universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics.

  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize assignments, manage workflow, and work productively in meeting critical deadlines with constantly changing priorities and interruptions.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing. Excellent interpersonal skills, using tact and diplomacy to interact effectively with all levels of professional providers, staff, and a diverse patient population. Skill in appropriate telephone techniques.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in both clinical and research settings.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical.
  • Hours are Monday-Friday, variable, 8-hour days. Shifts will be 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. No weekends or holidays required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $74,980 - $93,229 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $35.91 - $44.65

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
