Chief Engineer

Job Summary

Lead engineering team operations to safely and cost-effectively operate building systems while ensuring 100% uptime commitment. Protect client assets through reliability-based maintenance programs, regulatory compliance, and team leadership that maximizes building performance and value.

Key Responsibilities

Building Operations & Team Leadership

  • Monitor and maintain HVAC, refrigeration, boiler, and mechanical/electrical equipment while overseeing preventive maintenance programs
  • Supervise engineering and maintenance staff including hiring, training, and performance management
  • Ensure Critical Facility Work Authorization (CFWA) process compliance among staff, tenants, and contractors
  • Manage contractor activities and maintain adequate inventory of tools and supplies

Safety & Compliance

  • Identify safety hazards, implement remediation, and administer comprehensive safety training programs
  • Ensure Federal, State, and Local regulatory compliance and maintain infrastructure documentation
  • Execute equipment inspection and monitoring programs while continuously evaluating maintenance methods
  • Measure and manage client feedback through formal and informal relationship meetings
Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical field preferred
  • 7+ years building operations and maintenance experience
  • 3+ years supervisory experience managing engineering and maintenance teams
  • Experience with commercial building systems and critical facility operations

Technical & Leadership Skills

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, boiler, and mechanical/electrical systems
  • Understanding of preventive/predictive maintenance and building automation systems
  • Proven supervisory experience with hiring, training, and performance management
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and safety program implementation

Core Competencies

  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Experience with inventory management, vendor relationships, and contractor oversight
  • Professional demeanor with client-focused service orientation and safety commitment
Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Certifications

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Facilities management certifications (CFM, FMP, SFP)
  • HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems certifications
  • Project management certification (PMP)

Specialized Experience

  • Experience with critical facilities (data centers, hospitals, laboratories)
  • Knowledge of energy management, sustainability programs, and CMMS systems
  • Building automation expertise and predictive maintenance technologies
  • Understanding of building commissioning and performance optimization
Working Conditions

Commercial building environment with exposure to mechanical systems. Requires flexibility for emergency response, contractor coordination, and client meetings. Involves both hands-on technical work and administrative responsibilities.
