DESCRIPTION

The UC San Diego Rady School of Management provides exceptional business education through its many academic degree programs. The Manager of Instructional Services plays a crucial role in providing strategic guidance, direction, and oversight for Rady School of Management graduate instructional services and analyzes campus and UC policy to advise faculty leadership and facilitate decision-making. The incumbent manages the annual instructional planning process for all Rady graduate courses and facilitates the instructional planning and promotes consensus with decision-makers: Assistant Deans, Associate Deans, Academic Coordinators, Academic Personnel, and Academic Program Directors. This position is the content expert in course planning, campus compliance, and timeline delivery across all Rady while overseeing and coordinating all details, aspects and components of the ongoing graduate curriculum planning process. In addition, this position contributes information and recommends strategic plan reviews and project implementation plans to leadership and faculty while preparing and completing timelines and action plans. This position will also make recommendations regarding new policies and procedures to improve and enhance the efficiency of programs. This position must utilize elevated collaboration and communication skills to negotiate with and influence Rady Faculty Executive Directors, faculty committees, individual faculty/lecturers, and other Rady departments to meet student and departmental goals and objective and to ensure compliance with UC and UCSD policies.Lastly, this leadership position works under the general direction of the Rady Senior Director of Graduate Student Affairs. Supervises and manages a team of three full-time staff who provide critical academic course support to eight distinct Rady graduate and PhD degree programs, approximately 900 graduate students, over 250 graduate classes per year (encompassing over 8000 enrollments annually).

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent in-depth knowledge and experience in curriculum planning processes and best practices. Strong experience related to curricular planning, course scheduling changes, new course approvals, and instructional support policies and processes.

  • Experience providing recommendations to faculty regarding curriculum plans and curriculum policies.

  • Experience researching curriculum policies, synthesizing and summarizing large amounts of university policy information.

  • Experience supporting a faculty-led committee. Full knowledge of FERPA and other student records/confidentiality issues and policies.

  • Supervisory experience (or ability) including interviewing and selecting staff; providing effective coaching and performance feedback.

  • Bachelor's degree in Student Affairs, College Counseling, Student Development, Higher Education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills to work with and gain trust from department senior management, faculty, external stakeholders, fundraisers and students. Rapport-building, collaboration, and consensus-building skills. Superb communication skills and experience interacting with faculty, leadership staff, and other decision-makers. Diplomacy skills.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • This position typically works 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday hybrid (on campus and remote work). The position also works on campus a minimum of two weekend days per quarter and several 10:00am-6:30pm weekday shifts per quarter to provide in-person support to our evening and weekend graduate students. Additional evenings and weekends may be required due to student needs, class schedules or special events such as orientation, commencement, and club meetings. Weekend shifts and later weekday shifts are scheduled in advance (i.e. rarely is it last minute).

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $71,600 - $127,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $34.29 - $61.02

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
