Overview

The Junior Buyer is responsible for supporting the procurement function by processing purchase orders, obtaining supplier quotations, coordinating with internal customers, and ensuring materials, supplies, and services are purchased in a timely and cost-effective manner. This role works closely with Procurement leadership and suppliers to support daily purchasing activities while developing knowledge of company procurement processes, supplier management practices, and inventory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to a positive work environment and promotes the vision, mission, and values of BMC.
  • Completes all job responsibilities in a safe manner and promotes a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Create and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely placement with suppliers.
  • Obtain and compare supplier quotations, pricing, availability, and lead times for routine purchases.
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding order status, delivery schedules, pricing, and product availability.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to understand purchasing needs and ensure timely fulfillment of requests.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal customers across the organization to provide responsive purchasing support and ensure business needs are met in a timely and professional manner.
  • Review purchasing transactions for accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist with resolving order discrepancies, invoice issues, and delivery concerns.
  • Maintain purchasing records, supplier information, and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.
  • Assist with inventory replenishment activities and helps identify potential supply shortages.
  • Supports supplier performance monitoring and escalates quality, service, or delivery issues as needed.
  • Utilize ERP systems, procurement software, and Microsoft Office applications to support purchasing activities.
  • Assist with purchasing reports, spend analysis, and data collection as requested.
  • Learn and apply company procurement policies, ethical sourcing practices, and required approval processes.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives designed to enhance procurement efficiency and customer service.
  • Performs other duties and projects assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Accounting, or a related field required.
  • 0-3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, inventory management, customer service, administration, or a related business function preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Experience using ERP systems, purchasing software, or inventory systems preferred.
  • Basic understanding of purchasing and inventory concepts preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
  • Ability to learn and apply new systems, processes, and procurement practices.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Pursuit of procurement or supply chain certifications is encouraged but not required.

Working Conditions

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work primarily inside throughout the year; however, this position may also require working in non-climate-controlled environments as well as outdoors.
  • Position may require employees to be physically present at designated worksite locations.
  • Requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, and lifting.
  • Seeing, reading, and writing to complete job responsibilities.
  • Use of computers and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
