| Purpose: |
An Physician-Academic FM should possess skills, and knowledge that collectively allows them to provide comprehensive medical care, health maintenance, and preventive services to each patient for a range of biological and behavioral problems. Through their patient relationships and training, they are positioned to lead patient care teams, especially under the Patient Centered Medical Home and Accountable Care Organization models. Primary Care/Family Practice physicians also serve as patient advocates in all health-related matters, including the appropriate use of specialists, health services, population health management and community resources.An Physician-Academic FM exemplifies commitment to leadership in medical student, resident, and/or fellow education and program administration to meet the goal of continuous program improvement. The position involves working in tandem with departmental leadership in the organization, implementation, and supervision of essential training experiences. Duties include but are not limited to the clinical supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows, didactic teaching responsibilities, and committee participation.Provides clinical teaching and supervision to medical students, residents, and other assigned learners in ambulatory, inpatient, and procedural settings.Participates in learner assessment, including timely completion of evaluations and verbal feedback.Supports the educational mission by contributing to conferences, didactic sessions, simulation, or case-based teaching as assigned.Demonstrates commitment to professional role modeling, patient safety, and evidence-based practice.Participates in academic, quality improvement, or scholarly activities consistent with departmental expectations.

| Nature and Scope: |
The incumbent obtains history, examines, diagnoses, counsels, and treats patients within the physician's area of specialty and experience. The incumbent makes critical decisions regarding medical care. The incumbent works closely and in cooperation with the management staff, directs comments, questions to the appropriate management person, and follows administrative policies. The incumbent has responsibilities for clinical teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows within their scope of practice. The incumbent actively participates in physician governance meetings, management decisions, and follows policies adopted by Renown Health and its medical staff and UNR Med. The incumbent stays abreast of current advances in medicine by reviewing recent publications, attending in-services and educational meetings, and attending continuing medical education programs in the appropriate field. The incumbent contributes to the academic mission of the organization through participation in teaching, evaluation of learners, and educational activities consistent with assigned faculty responsibilities.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:Ability to function effectively in an integrated delivery system.1. Knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulatory rules.2. Capable of operating business units in conformance with good quality and business practices as may be outlined by agencies such as The Joint Commission, NCQA, MGMA, etc.3. | Certification(s): |
Board Eligible or Board Certified in Family Medicine through the American Board of Family Medicine If Provider is Board Eligible at time of hire, Certification must be obtained within two (2) years of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Certification Life Support (ACLS) required. Prefer American Heart Association (AHA) approved certification but will accept online certification from American Red Cross Training Services, Advanced Medical Certification, or ACLS Certification Institute. |

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. |
