Position Summary

The Multimedia program at Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria is seeking applications to develop a qualified pool of part-time faculty for possible vacancies. Positions are available as determined by need during the Fall and/or Spring semesters of the 2022-2023 academic years.


Essential Functions and Qualifications

1. Teach college courses in Multimedia: Motion Graphics, Web Design and/or Game & App design or 3-D Modeling/Animation.

2. In addition faculty are required to assist in curriculum revisions and new course development, consult with students during office and lab hours and maintain expertise in current technologies; and perform other professional duties as are required by contract and general institutional needs.

Recent successful experience in teaching or preparation to teach college-level courses in multimedia. Please indicate your areas of specialty in the cover letter.

Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety issues in labs and materials use.

Ability to ensure consistent and appropriate assessment of student progress.

Commitment to maintain currency in the discipline and related technology appropriate to instruction.

A commitment to the teaching profession, its goals and ideals.

Enthusiasm for, understanding of, and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college.

Skill and experience to motivate students from a broad spectrum of cultural, socioeconomic, and language backgrounds.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Experience in Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Illustrator

Proficient in hand-coding XHTML and CSS.

Traditional graphic design training.

Basic knowledge of Animate, Unity, and video editing in not required, but beneficial.

Industry experience either in a design studio or freelancing.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build successful relationships with students.

Outstanding conflict resolution skills.

Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills.

Computer based skills (i.e., software, analytical, and writing skills.).


Minimum Qualifications

Possession of any Bachelor's degree AND two years of professional experience OR an Associate degree AND six years of professional experience OR the equivalent (see below)

Three years' experience working in the multimedia/web design/game and app design field

Two years' experience in instruction or formalized education process, preferably in a post-secondary or college institution

Experience in a variety of multimedia development software tools, including the Adobe CC package

Experience in scripting: CSS, JavaScript, and ActionScript

Experience in developing apps and/or games using Unity software

Competency in the use of supporting software such as the Microsoft OS and Office Suite and a variety of internet browsers

Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff

Degree Equivalence:
The applicant possesses a degree(s) with similar content to those listed for the relevant discipline. The name of the degree is close to that specified on the Disciplines List but the degree either has a different title or area of expertise or the coursework is slightly different.

Academic Background Equivalence:
Related to disciplines in which a Master's Degree is not generally expected or available. The applicant must have completed at least 24 semester units of coursework in the academic field and must possess at least the equivalent level of achievement and the equivalent in breadth, depth of understanding, and rigor in each of the following:

i) a broad cultural education usually met by the general education requirements for any Bachelor's or Associate's Degree, and

ii) a detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor, usually met by course work required for the degree major.

Professional Achievement Equivalence:
The applicant must have completed the General Education requirements for that degree and show evidence of outstanding professional achievement and/or substantial training in the requested field. The applicant must submit substantial evidence, which demonstrates that his/her preparation, teaching experience, work experience, and ability are equivalent to those expected from a person who meets the minimum qualifications.

SALARY:
Lecture Rate: $57.72 to $77.18 per hour depending upon education and experience

Lab Rate: $50.28 to $67.20 per hour depending upon education and experience
Activity Rate: $37.13 to $50.62 per hour depending upon education and experience
