Job Summary:

Hackster is a community of engineers and developers dedicated towards learning and contributing to open source technologies. We are looking for an Technology Team Lead that will make crucial decisions in our future goals by providing our community with the most engaging toolsets and software. This role will work in tandem with our business team leaders by assisting in contests, marketing campaigns and other site products.

Applicants should be proficient in Ruby on Rails and React frameworks, respectfully. Further expertise in Postgres, Github project management and workflows, CI build systems (i.e. CircleCI), testing frameworks Rspec and Mocha. Experience with Heroku, AWS and/or GoogleCloud will be useful. Further experience with Node.js is a plus.

Team management experience is a must. This role will over-see an onsite, local developer and an offsite team. This role will control and review all code that makes it to production.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Manages the development team, product sprints and day to day issues by creating tickets and assigning tasks where necessary.
  • Reviews all code through a Pull Request process, supplying feedback and/or suggestions and is the decider of what makes it to production.
  • Adheres to strict coding guidelines, following best practices and eager to do so.
  • Monitoring and configuring Heroku servers and GoogleCloud services when necessary.
  • Database optimizations and monitoring.
  • Ability to code and polish products, fix bugs and other developer duties.

Job Level Specifications:

  • Experience and expertise with Ruby on Rails (modern), Postgres, Rspec, React, ES6 and Mocha.
  • Experience with Heroku, AWS and/or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with Git workflows.
  • Experience with maintaining and optimizing SQL queries and strategies.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of principles, theories and concepts. Complete knowledge of all job functions and the broad industry best practices, techniques and standards.
  • Develops solutions to complex problems where analysis of situations and/or data requires in-depth evaluation of variables. Determine best approach to achieve results and provide suggestions to improve policies and procedures.
  • Work is performed independently and requires the exercise of judgment and discretion. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. Work may be reviewed at a high-level.
  • May represent the organization as a primary contact on assignments and/or projects. Interacts with senior professionals and management and frequently coordinates work between departments or organizations.
  • Actions may impact the organization. Failure to accomplish work will result in the inability to reach crucial organizational goals. Erroneous decisions may have a prolonged effect resulting in the expenditure of substantial resources.

Work Experience:

  • Typically 6+ years including 2+ years of supervisory experience

Education and Certification(s):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and job skills can be obtained.

  • Self-starter.
  • Owns their projects and succeeds to the best of their ability.
  • Eager to learn and grow as a developer.
  • Desire to guide junior developers in a close team setting.
