Senior Data Engineer IV - Java and Python

At Capital Group, data and technology are a critical enabler of our long-term strategy. As a Senior Data Engineer you will join our data platform team and work closely with our Business to define, plan and execute our technology roadmap.

You'll bring your agile mindset as you lead the design, implementation, and delivery of large-scale, critical, and complex data infrastructure, while also being hands on in building software and frameworks for loading data that will accelerate others doing the same.

You'll be on the forefront of automation and leading by example in making our success repeatable, with a high degree of operational and engineering rigor.

  • You have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • You have at least 10 years of data engineering experience with expertise in designing analytic databases or data lakes, and the infrastructure underneath them
  • You're an expert in at least one modern programming languages such as Python, and/or Java and re comfortable applying concepts across languages. You know what good code looks like in that language, and you're passionate about ensuring others build good software too
  • You're so familiar with Git, Github, AWS Code Build, Code Pipeline, or similar tools that you build CI/CD pipelines almost out of habit
  • You have considerable experience in not only provisioning cloud infrastructure with tools like Terraform or the CDK, but also deploying highly available and fault tolerant suites of cloud services. You've also provisioned and run applications on Kubernetes
  • You prefer to build things securely by default and have experience building automation to ensure its correct upfront
  • You have deep experience with open-source software, are not afraid to modify it to suit your use case, and perhaps have even contributed back to the community.
  • You know that data and infrastructure observability are critical to maturing operations and have invested heavily in about telemetry to support proactive monitoring
  • You have built large scale data pipelines with Spark and are comfortable tuning performance at both the pipeline and infrastructure level, to support stringent data delivery expectations. You've used data orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow to run these pipelines
  • You're adept at creating and optimizing advanced logic on datasets on large scale data platforms like Spark and have worked with cloud analytic databases (i.e., Snowflake, AWS Redshift, or Azure Synapse via SQL)
  • You adapt programming literacy to match the shifting demands of different outcomes and technologies.
  • You have a passion for driving change and innovation. You introduce innovative ideas that push boundaries and challenge our culture when needed.
  • You apply knowledge of composable architectures, serverless computing and cloud native technologies when developing solutions


Southern California Base Salary Range: $140,995-$225,592

In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
