This is a 100% Limited position for 18 months. This appointment may be converted to career status based on the needs of the department.

DESCRIPTION

Special Collections & Archives houses a wide range of primary source materials that support UCSD's instructional and research programs. Holdings include 250,000 volumes, as well thousands of manuscripts, archives, maps, photographs, artworks, and media.

Working within the Special Collections & Archives program and reporting to the Supervisory Archivist, with work direction for rights analysis support from the Curator, Archive for New Poetry, serves as project coordinator for the digitization of audiovisual recordings from the Archive for New Poetry (ANP) collection, and tracking rights and/or permissions for reformatted recordings. The UC San Diego Library has received a grant from the Mellon Foundation's Public Knowledge Program to support greater public awareness and access to poetry collections within cultural institutions.

Responsible for conducting an inventory of ANP audiovisual recordings on original media formats; organizing and prioritizing recordings for digitization at an approved vendor, including paging, shipping, and receiving; performing quality control and some assessment of the content of recordings; tracking the physical location of items and reshelving. Prepares and enhances descriptive metadata from existing sources for recordings in preparation for ingest of digital files into the Library's Digital Asset Management System (DAMS).

This position will also identify rights holders and participate in the workflow to secure permissions and/or licensing agreements for the recordings and document the status of ongoing rights inquiries. Rights status (copyright holder, and if a recording can be made public) will be included in descriptive metadata for objects. Handles all library materials according to accepted library preservation practices. Carries out special grant-related support tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience controlling or managing inventories or objects in collections.

  • Demonstrated project planning and time management skills to execute projects in a timely manner.

  • Experience and or ability to independently coordinate, create, track and manage incoming and outgoing shipping information ensuring materials are returned and re-shelved correctly.

  • General knowledge of rules and standards regarding archival, library, or cultural heritage object description sufficient to enhance, correct, and create metadata for digital objects.

  • Intermediate to advanced computer spreadsheet skills to create, edit, and manipulate spreadsheets and reports.

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to set and maintain priorities, meet deadlines, and establish/meet quality and quantity standards.

Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $55,770 - $73,143 Annually

The University of California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
