What do you do all day?

At NMSI, our people mean everything to us. They are the lifeblood of the organization. Without our staff, NMSI is just an idea. The Senior Director of Business Development leads a revenue-generating team and portfolio including both fee-for-service, fundraising, and government revenue. This role is critical for NMSI to achieve it's revenue strategy.

This role directly supervises 3 employees, reports to the VP of Business Development, and is a regular full-time position that can be performed from anywhere in the contiguous United States. Occasional travel is required for in-person meetings and conferences.

What are the details?

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of fee-for-service accounts
  • Identify six- and seven-figure fee-for-service opportunities
  • Develop and implement relationship plans and moves-management for fee-for-service partners and prospects
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward fee-for-service partners and prospects
  • Lead and manage a team focused on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding fee-for-service partners, government funders, and donors
  • Support direct reports in developing strategy and relationship plans across revenue streams (fee for service, government, and philanthropy)
  • Lead regional and portfolio goal setting, strategy, and progress monitoring
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations and assist the board and other staff with their solicitations (e.g., support portfolio development, revenue strategy, and external communications)
  • Ensure compliance with NMSI policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements; demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
  • May manage or participate in complex or sensitive negotiations.
  • Empower direct reports to take responsibility for their jobs and goals. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback
  • Coach, mentor, and train staff

What are we looking for?

  • Education & Experience You have at least five years of progressive responsibility in revenue generation, especially fee-for-service sales and preferably across multiple revenue streams. You have demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting, and closing six- or seven-figure opportunities and coaching a team to results.
  • Communication You have strong verbal communication skills and the ability to convey the mission of NMSI to diverse groups of partners and prospects. You also have strong written communication skills and the ability to write compelling and concise proposals tailored to specific audiences.

What do we offer?

The hiring salary range for this position is $154,506 to $177,682, and the salary offer will be commensurate with experience. We take pay equity seriously and work hard to ensure our team members are paid fairly regardless of their gender, race, or other demographic backgrounds. In addition to a competitive salary with the potential for an annual pay increase, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package, including paying roughly 85% of employee-only medical, dental, and vision benefits plus a large portion for dependents. Staff are eligible to participate in 401(k) after 90 days of employment, with up to a 6% employee match, fully vested on day one of participation in the plan. Other benefits for full-time employees include referral and performance-based annual bonuses, telecommunications stipends for eligible remote employees, 20+ paid holidays annually (including a two week-long winter break), and a generous PTO policy starting at 12 days per year.
