Position Overview

Reporting to the Utilities Manager, the Operations Maintenance Coordinator - Utilities, for the Arkansas Kraft Division, will have responsibility for maintaining and executing both the short/long term maintenance plan and executing the daily operating plan for the Utilities department. This will include continuously improving the safety culture, quality, productivity, and cost of operation so that steam, electricity, water, and green liquor are supplied in the desired quantities & qualities to the Mill. This is a growth position, and the desired candidate must possess the desire and aptitude to progress into the role of Utilities Manager.

  • Provide leadership to maintain and improve safe working conditions and maintaining good housekeeping practices.
  • Lead the effort to optimize the effectiveness of all maintenance processes as relating to operations. Including but not limited to: Equipment availability, planning and scheduling (including Shutdowns), preventive maintenance, break-in work, and emergencies.
  • Support effective communication between operations, engineering, maintenance, and reliability.
  • Support the management of asset quality, ensuring the manufacturing reliability of equipment focusing on reducing and minimizing process downtime while implementing preventative maintenance in the area.
  • Assist in work force effectiveness for both maintenance and operations by minimizing the potential for delays by communicating directly with operations to eliminate delays with starting scheduled maintenance work.
  • Work to identify opportunities for improvement and communicate them to operations, engineering, maintenance, and reliability.
  • Assist in reviewing break-in work to assess the true priority.
  • Maintain the maintenance priority list. Work with the maintenance group to maintain backlog at a reasonable level.
  • Communicate and coordinate all scheduled maintenance activities with Shift Supervisors and all others involved.
  • Lead outage planning and execution. (down days, routine outage, annual outages).
  • Communicate and reinforce the mill's running objectives, sustaining the highest operational quality and productivity levels.
  • Partner with maintenance to support the management of asset quality; ensuring the manufacturing reliability of equipment focusing on reducing and minimizing process downtime while implementing preventative maintenance in the area.
  • Develop and use participative management skills, such as safety preventative measures, incident investigation and RCFA.
  • Provide strong leadership by leading the initiative of safe work practices by championing new ideas, learning from events, communicating with the team and development of an empowered, highly motivated operational crew.
  • Lead and develop operational crews in activities around quality and operational improvements; by clearly communicating expectations, enhancing operational knowledge, coaching successes and opportunities, and coordinating with maintenance support to improve substandard facilities, and maintain a reliable and sustainable operation.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Back End Optimization Superintendent to prioritize and execute maintenance and operational plans, including lockout creation and verification.


Qualifications

Qualifications

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred, however, a degree in another engineering field, science, or experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
  • The Operations Maintenance Coordinator should have 5-7 years of progressively more practical and technical experience. It is preferred that this experience is gained from within the Recovery/Utilities area of the paper industry through exposure to process engineering and/or tour foreman. Kraft recovery boiler and black liquor evaporator experience is desired.
  • Experience managing day-to-day operations either in the paper industry, petrochemical/heavy industry, or power generation/utility sector.
  • Desire to increase responsibilities within the department to progress to Utilities Manager.
  • Familiarity with understanding and implementing BLRBAC and AF&PA recovery boiler operating and maintenance guidelines.
  • Experience managing maintenance activities around gas-fired and hog fueled boilers.
  • Experience managing industrial water treatment maintenance activities (to include process water preparation and boiler water preparation including high pressure feedwater system).
  • Qualified candidates will have a keen business acumen, combined with strong fiscal awareness and understanding -as it relates to cost control/reduction, particularly in response to immediate and critical operational decisions.
  • In addition to a full complement of leadership skills - including the ability to lead teams in a union environment - it is also important for the OMC-Utilities to bring knowledge of personnel development and maintenance coordination. Incorporating continuous improvement processes and best practices will be keys to the success of the OMC-Utilities.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively deliver and reinforce consistent messages at all levels.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of project management software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of EAM software.

The Arkansas Kraft Division is a fully integrated pulp and containerboard mill utilizing a sustainable combination of virgin fiber and recycled fiber to produce high quality kraft linerboard and corrugating medium.
