Summary:
The Litigation Paralegal will have a minimum of 5 years of litigation experience, with a strong understanding of Nevada court rules and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in creditors' rights tasks, including: drafting dispute and demand letters to debtors and financial business partners in a dispute, enforcing prior stipulated liens or agreements in lieu of bankruptcy but documented in state court proceedings, determining interest accrued on debts, and paperwork renegotiating or enforcing prior workouts.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with proven efficacy as a problem-solver, excellent interpersonal skills, and the highest degree of professionalism. Must be a team player with a positive, can-do attitude. Outstanding technology literacy with solid e-Discovery skills is critical. This role requires flexibility and openness to work in the evenings or on weekends, which may be on a somewhat frequent basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Directing staff in the organization and management of data and evidence
  • Assisting with case management
  • Drafting, correspondence, pleadings, discovery, stipulations, order, and judgments, etc.
  • Researching and calculating pre- and/or post-judgment interest
  • Investigating, locating, analyzing, summarizing, and tracking facts, evidence, and other data using online resources, such as Pacer, state court dockets, search engines, social media, Westlaw, county assessor and treasurer databases, etc.
  • Preparing pre-suit damages analysis
  • Locating and interviewing witnesses and working with investigator(s) as needed
  • Working with expert witnesses, including researching potential experts, preparation of documents for review, and coordination of filing and/or service of expert reports
  • Communicating with clients, co-counsel, opposing counsel, courts, government agencies, etc.
  • Researching, analyzing, and summarizing depositions, witness statements, rules of procedure, evidence, statutes, regulations, and occasionally, case law
  • Drafting privilege and redaction logs
  • Judgment research, domestication, and renewal
  • Appropriate utilization of e-discovery platforms, such as Ipro e-discovery software, Relativity, etc. to manage evidence in conjunction with our Litigation Support Team
  • Appropriate utilization of other legal technologies, such as CaseMap, TimeMap, TextMap, TrialDirector, OnCue, and PageVault
  • Facilitating court filings (completing filings when necessary)
  • Instructing docketing staff on recording deadlines, verifying accuracy of deadlines, tracking deadlines, and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Preparing fact chronologies (including medical)
  • Preparing for and attending arbitration, hearings, mediation, and trial
  • Accurately tracking and recording time spent on tasks and projects to reflect the value provided
  • Performing other duties as required
  • Some duties may require in-office presence


Skills and attributes include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and remain flexible to meet client and attorney needs while maintaining a positive attitude and composure
  • Willingness to take initiative and anticipate the needs of attorneys, clients, and matters
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing internally with attorneys and staff and externally with clients, opposing counsel, co-counsel, expert witnesses, courts, government agencies, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail and self-motivation
  • Good understanding of legal terminology, including technology and e-Discovery terms
  • Legal writing talent
  • Ability to respond timely and effectively in a team atmosphere
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of litigation workflows and processes
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed
  • Outstanding technology aptitude and literacy, including but not limited to the complete Microsoft Office suite; PDF compilation programs; file management systems (DeskSite/iManage); time tracking software, e-Discovery platforms; case management programs; and web capture software
  • Understanding of and ability to research, understand, and utilize various e-filing processes and requirements
  • Ability to prioritize accurately or to readily obtain direction on prioritization of tasks
  • Significant knowledge of the Nevada Civil Rules of Procedure or the ability to quickly research and understand such rules
  • Familiarity with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure or the ability to quickly research and understand such rules
  • Ability to recognize when to problem-solve independently and when to ask for help
  • Team player who can work independently or collaboratively and recognize which is appropriate
  • Ability to record time in a manner that reflects the value of work invested in tasks or projects and demonstrate the value of the same
  • Ability to understand and follow specific, detailed instructions while recognizing when to ask for clarification or make suggestions


Education and Experience:


  • A minimum of five years' civil litigation experience required
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in paralegal or legal studies from regionally accredited college or university preferred
  • NALA certification is highly preferred
  • Expertise in accounting intricacies and financial calculations involved in business investment and real estate transactions is highly preferred
  • Creditor's rights experience is highly desired, including life cycle of bankruptcy litigation tasks and typical responsibilities
  • Experience working across offices at a distance is helpful
  • The ideal candidate will also have knowledge and experience with other state civil rules, including California, Arizona, and Colorado.
