Overview Partner with the SVP Enterprise Risk in developing, managing, and promoting overall operational risk management standards and framework. Lead and drive the strategic and operational direction in implementing/enhancing an operational risk program. The Operational Risk Management (ORM) program is responsible for supporting the achievement of Navy Federal's objectives by addressing the full spectrum of its operational risks. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive operational risk management strategies aligned with the company's objectives and regulatory requirements
- Provide strategic direction into the development and enhancement of ORM Policy, Standards, and Procedures, ensuring accuracy, consistency, simplicity, and effectiveness
- Engage and partner with Business Units to influence adoption of ORM frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures
- Identify, assess, and prioritize operational risks across all business units and functions
- Counsel and advise key stakeholders on complex risk issues; provide guidance and feedback to business units throughout their risk management lifecycle
- Engage with senior stakeholders and provide challenge where appropriate
- Oversee the implementation of risk mitigation plans, controls, and processes to minimize operational risk exposure
- Establish key risk indicators (KRIs) and metrics to monitor and report on operational risk levels and trends
- Lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with control partners to achieve objectives across multiple business units
- Participate in and support internal and external audits, regulatory reviews, and rating agency requests
- Collaborate with senior leadership and department heads to embed a strong risk culture throughout the organization
- Lead the operational risk assessment process, including scenario analysis, to evaluate potential impacts on business operations
- Provide guidance and support to business units in identifying, assessing, and managing operational risks within their respective areas
- Stay abreast of industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to continuously enhance the operational risk management framework
- Conduct periodic reviews and assessments of existing risk management policies, procedures, and frameworks to ensure effectiveness and alignment with evolving business needs
- Serve as a subject matter expert on operational risk management matters, providing advice and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders
- Oversee quality and on-time preparation of senior management and Board-level committee materials
- Oversee the operational risk issues and events management program
- Performs supervisory/managerial responsibilities
- Ensure adequate/skilled staffing; select employees
- Establish performance goals and priorities
- Prepare, conduct, and review performance appraisals
- Develop, mentor and counsel staff
- Leverage internal recognition to incent and reward team members for effort and results
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance or related field
- Proven experience in operational risk management within the financial services industry, with a strong understanding of banking operations, processes, and regulations
- Expert knowledge of risk management principles and ability to comprehend, analyze, interpret, communicate, and apply risk management related practices, instructions, procedures, and policies
- Advanced risk management experience in a complex institution and/or highly matrixed environment related to banking, insurance, and/or financial services
- Expert knowledge in relevant regulations, industry trends, tying in with the compliance, regulations, and a focus on operational efficiency
- Expert knowledge of the financial services industry to include risk assessment
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead and motivate cross-functional teams
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with a keen attention to detail
- Advanced skill to influence, negotiate and persuade to reach agreeable exchange and positive outcomes
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced skill interpreting and synthesizing large amounts of data
- Advanced skill in project management to include establishing and leading project team; managing deadlines/resources; ensuring successful project implementation
- Desired - Master's Degree in Business Administration or Finance or related field
- Desired - Experience educating/training/promoting best practices in risk management
