Conduct research in the areas of performance of metals, alloys, composite materials and corrosion inhibiting coatings and surface treatments. Conduct chemical and physical testing and analysis on materials, coatings and surface treatments. Perform forensic analysis on material and coatings to determine root cause of failure.

- Conduct research in the areas of new material composition, processing and joining techniques
- Collaborate with engineers on material and coating/surface treatment selection in support of new product design and product improvement efforts
- Determines appropriate test validation methods based on applicable standards, design requirements and customer specifications
- Conduct physical, chemical and environmental tests to validate material performance
- Perform failure analysis on samples from testing and field applications
- Prepare and present, written and/or orally, professional engineering test reports. Report outcome by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data in a usable format
- Maintain records and files to support tests, equipment and instrumentation
- Continually maintain the highest degree of customer service, throughput, quality, cost reduction and productivity
- Maintain a safe testing environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
- Participate in equipment calibration, preventative maintenance and 5S activities as necessary
- Any other job duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
-B.S. degree in Material Science and Engineering
-Experience in materials testing laboratory environment, with additional experience in corrosion testing and analysis preferred
-Computer skills required in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
-Familiar with data acquisition software and components preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-High degree of mechanical aptitude
-Ability to perform in a team environment
-Practical knowledge of test engineering principles, theories, concepts and techniques
-Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
-Knowledge of other related engineering and technical areas
-Ability to develop, read, analyze and interpret policies and technical documents, and recommend changes to policies and procedures
